The Lookout Retreat

A warm, quietly luxurious group retreat in the South Downs, near Brighton

Tucked away in the heart of the South Downs National Park, The Lookout Retreat is a one-of-a-kind venue designed for connection, celebration and deep rest. Surrounded by rolling hills and expansive views, yet just five minutes from the beach and 20 minutes from Brighton, it offers the perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility.

We welcome up to 22 guests in winter. From April to October, the main accommodation sleeps 24 guests, with space for up to 28 when the additional four-person bell tent is booked.

A retreat venue designed for gathering

We welcome wholesome gatherings, not wild parties. The retreat is in a peaceful part of the South Downs National Park and has a 10pm outdoor curfew, helping us protect the calm of this special setting.

The retreat includes a spacious main house with communal living and dining areas, two bespoke cabins, and a luxury four-person bell tent available from April to October.

Outside, you’ll find generous gardens, a year-round hot tub and a cold plunge available in spring and summer, plus a beautiful natural tiered amphitheatre carved into the hillside.

Children are welcome, as are up to three well-behaved dogs.

The Lookout Retreat is especially suited to family celebrations, group holidays, wholesome hen weekends, corporate getaways and creative retreats. We can also connect you with trusted local practitioners and private chefs.

Spend your days walking the Downs, dipping into the sea or exploring Brighton’s creative culture, then return to quiet evenings under the stars.

A Place for Creativity

The Lookout was created by Andy Barlow (Lamb) —
a music producer and composer whose work has been heard around the world.

The retreat includes The Lookout Studio, a professional recording studio used for songwriting sessions, creative retreats and music production.
